Yes, I have moved!

Ok…so you may have noticed the recent post that says I have moved to DC.  Well that’s right.  I have left my job in Fort  Myers, Florida with Sony Electronics for an opportunity to work at the Library of Congress (LOC) as a LAMP Developer.  This is a contract position and I will be working for CACI International.  I have also started a new blog about living in DC.  You can follow me over there at Living in the District.  This whole process has moved very quickly and I am still settling in.  Stick with me while I get going.  It shouldn’t be to long before I am back blogging again.

Sabres Win in OT

We are back from the Buffalo Sabres, Tampa Bay Lighting game.  It was fantastic!  This was my fist game in the Tampa arena, and was pretty impressed.  I have posted photos here of the game.  Oh yea Buffalo won in OT.  There were lots of Sabres fan and at one point in the arena the chant was “Let go Buffalo”.  This also was the chant outside the arena when walking to the car.

Gone, Not To Far, Now Back

Wow it’s been busy.  Work has been taking most of my life since my last post and probably will continue till December 1st.  I have been trying not to let it take over so I haven’t been doing any work on the weekends.  This Saturday Jen and I are going up to Tampa to see the Buffalo Sabres Vs. Tampa Bay Lighting Hockey Game.  I am really excited; I haven’t been to a NHL game in about 2 years.

It’s the end of October and our first cold front has pushed through Southwest Florida.  It has been in the 90’s and humid every day and when the temp and humidity drops, even if it’s just to 80 you feel it.  Fortunately today when I left for work the temperature was 66.  Last night we were able to have dinner on the lanai and it was comfortable.

NHL Center Ice has taken over my TV life.  This is pretty much all that I like to do at night time.  Throw on a game and work on the computer.  The best part is that I have seen all the Buffalo Sabres Games so far, though 3-5 isn’t anything to brag about.  14 channels of hockey probably was the best $149.00 I spent (at least on TV programming).

I have ordered my new TV!  It’s a Sony (go figure) 50’ SXRD Rear Projection (Model: KDS-50A3000).  This is going to make watching TV so much better.  Jen thinks it’s to big but I guarantee she will love it.  I can’t wait to see the Wink News cast in high def and Hockey.  I sense more TV watching coming on.

Writting off that Move

Recently I moved to Florida for work reasons, a new job. Anyways, I saved all my receipts and that was a good thing. If you moved because of work then you are in luck. Get this, it’s not just people moving because they got new jobs. College students can take advantage of this for there first job too! So here is the deal. If you moved more that 50 miles from your previous job and are going to work 39 weeks in the first 12 months then you qualify. Easy as that. So what can you deduct? Well here is a list of deductible items;

  1. Cost of packing
  2. Gas, or mileage. For 2006 its $0.18 a mile.
  3. Storage expenses for 30 days
  4. Fees to start and turn off services. Such as gas, electric, cable.
  5. Lodging and much more.

I will be taking advantage of this and you should too! For more information on how to deduct your moving expenses check out the IRS and SmartMoney.com
