Gone, Not To Far, Now Back

Wow it’s been busy.  Work has been taking most of my life since my last post and probably will continue till December 1st.  I have been trying not to let it take over so I haven’t been doing any work on the weekends.  This Saturday Jen and I are going up to Tampa to see the Buffalo Sabres Vs. Tampa Bay Lighting Hockey Game.  I am really excited; I haven’t been to a NHL game in about 2 years.

It’s the end of October and our first cold front has pushed through Southwest Florida.  It has been in the 90’s and humid every day and when the temp and humidity drops, even if it’s just to 80 you feel it.  Fortunately today when I left for work the temperature was 66.  Last night we were able to have dinner on the lanai and it was comfortable.

NHL Center Ice has taken over my TV life.  This is pretty much all that I like to do at night time.  Throw on a game and work on the computer.  The best part is that I have seen all the Buffalo Sabres Games so far, though 3-5 isn’t anything to brag about.  14 channels of hockey probably was the best $149.00 I spent (at least on TV programming).

I have ordered my new TV!  It’s a Sony (go figure) 50’ SXRD Rear Projection (Model: KDS-50A3000).  This is going to make watching TV so much better.  Jen thinks it’s to big but I guarantee she will love it.  I can’t wait to see the Wink News cast in high def and Hockey.  I sense more TV watching coming on.

Writting off that Move

Recently I moved to Florida for work reasons, a new job. Anyways, I saved all my receipts and that was a good thing. If you moved because of work then you are in luck. Get this, it’s not just people moving because they got new jobs. College students can take advantage of this for there first job too! So here is the deal. If you moved more that 50 miles from your previous job and are going to work 39 weeks in the first 12 months then you qualify. Easy as that. So what can you deduct? Well here is a list of deductible items;

  1. Cost of packing
  2. Gas, or mileage. For 2006 its $0.18 a mile.
  3. Storage expenses for 30 days
  4. Fees to start and turn off services. Such as gas, electric, cable.
  5. Lodging and much more.

I will be taking advantage of this and you should too! For more information on how to deduct your moving expenses check out the IRS and SmartMoney.com

Location Change, Job Change, Life Change?

Fort Myers BeachWell I know I have said this before but a lot has happened since I last posted, and I mean a lot. The main item is that I am no longer in New York. That may come as a surprise to some of you! Sorry if you didn’t know, you do now. So here is the story. About 3 months back Jen had gotten a job down here in Florida, oh yeah, I now live in Fort Myers, FL (thats the second iteSONYm), and I told her that if she liked the area I would consider looking. Well, I guess she liked it. With my old job at ePlus, things where just staying stead, I wasn’t moving anywhere, and I was seeing many things that I didn’t like within the company. To make a long story short I decided to start posting the resume out and I accepted a job in Fort Myers with SONY Electronics as an Application Developer, or in better terms, a Web Developer. This position was just what I was looking for!

So I have been in Fort Myers for only about 4 days and so far I love the area. It’s hot and sunny, and near the beach, or pool if you don’t want to drive the 20 or so mins. Work starts Monday so more will come on that next week. Pictures will be on my flickr site soon I just don’t have a good connection to the internet. Right now we are using Samantha’s internet connection and can only be accessed in the dinning room. And for all you wondering how I know whose internet it really is, is because Samantha didn’t lock down her wireless router and I logged into it by using the http://192.168.1.1 with the username and password of “admin”. Word to the wise, LOCK you WIRELESS ROUTERS, and CHANGE the password!

Busy, Busy

It’s been busy lately.  Last week or so I bought a gym membership from Rochester Institute of Technology so that has been keeping me busy.  I have to get my money’s worth you know.  It wasn’t that expensive, only $60.00 for 2 months.  This isn’t bad considering I get full run of all facilities!  I have been going at around 5pm if anyone wants to join for some weights and such.  Also I have lots of web projects that I have been working on.  I’m in the process of working on one right now (www.creativeteachingcompany.com) and two other ones are in the workings (still in the planning phases) and the third (www.moraviabands.org) needs some updates.  So as you can see all of this along with work brings blogging to a hold.  I’m going to try to keep up with it but we will see.  I know now never to promise anything.  Other than that nothing is new. My cold (sinuses) is gone and I have uploaded some other pictures from Florida.  Till the next entry, stay warm, or cold.  Never know what the weather is like in NY.  Today it’s snowing so stay warm.
