This one is sorta different from other scams because most scammers do not use that same language as the company would. For instance, most banks including Bank of America (BOA) always say that they will never ask for your pin number nor should you give it to them. In this case the scammer includes that exact wordage in his email.

Here are some tips so you don’t get bitten by the bullet;

  1. Look at the From email address that you received. Does it look bogus? Look at the text after the @ symbol. However, scammers are now able to mask the email address the letter is sent from.
  2. If it looks fake or your feel something odd about it then don’t do it. Most companies will contact you by postal mail if they need information.
  3. If the site requires you to log in to see your account, then everything you do to your account should be when you are logged in. Example – BOA requires a log in to access account information. You are not able to change your address or phone number with BOA unless you are logged into your account.
  4. Look at the address bar of your browser. All sites will be “something.com ” if the address is an IP address (###.###.###.###) then its a fake. They use the IP address because they are unable to us bankofamerica.com. To check where the IP address is registered to click here and place the IP address into the text box at the top and click the “Search Whois” button. This will tell you where the IP address is registered to and maybe who. (This scam is out of Amsterdam)
  5. Your browser should prompt you! If your browser does not warn you that this site may be bogus then get a new browser. In Firefox 2.0 they pop up a message. Click on the thumbnails to see!
    • Firefox 2.0 – BOA FireFox
  6. Lastly use common sense. People practicing bad common sense will get bit by the bullet.

FYI – Internet Explorer’s Phishing Filter did not pick up this site. However, it looks like there filter is based on sites that are submitted to Microsoft. So if the site has not been submitted then it will most likely not show up. If a site is phishing for your data then a pop up message warning you about its content will appear.

NHL on Comcast Webcast

One thing that sucks about living in Southwest Florida is that I am unable to watch my Buffalo Sabres. The only time I am really able to watch them is when they play the Florida Panthers.  Those games are on Fox Sports Network out of Miami.  Well I think I have found something that every hockey fan should know about.  While doing a quick search of Comcast.net for something I came across NHL webcasts.  Last week I watched a Buffalo and it was great.  It was a re-broadcast of MSG’s feed.  Simply awesome!  Good quality and no bumps in the road.  I will be watching all the games from now on.

Email Password Hacking (Gmail, Yahoo, Hotmail, MSN)

Email HackingHave you ever been in a situation where you believed what someone has told you? Come on everyone has so don’t go saying that you haven’t! My co-worker has a website (www.genericgeek.com) where he posts a bunch of good articles and gets a fair amount of hits per day. He has posted stories from cracking your razer cell phone to reviews on his new macbook pro. In addition to the good posts he has users that post hourly about gmail password hacking. It seams like everyone wants to hack there wife’s, husbands, significant others, or whoevers password it may be. So as a joke I started posting irrelevant passwords some of them where “iamadork” and “ilovemuslims”. Some posters started emailing me saying that they saw my comments on genericgeek.com and was wondering if I could crack their password. At first I said no because I was just messing around, but after getting 5 or so emails in just one day asking the same thing I decided to change my answer. I told the mailers that I could but its going to cost you $40.00 and payment could be made via PayPal. One mailers conversation went like this; Continue reading

Web Development Tools

Web Books Doug found this web development tool kit that I thought I should share. This is an extensive vault of all things web development. It has information about apache, how to make money, CSS, CMS, Ajax, and lots of other coding snippets. I was looking at this site yesterday and saw a lot of changes that I am going to try to make to doswfl this weekend.

UPDATE: I was surprised to find that under the Content Management Systems (CMS) section I did not find WordPress.  I think this is one of the best free (open source) CMS packages out there.  WordPress.org allows you to install it on your system or you can go to wordpress.com which is hosted and free!

Message Boom!

The founders of YouTube have posted a small clip on there site! The video mentions two kingdoms coming together which I thought was kind of funny. Today on the NBC Today show they mentioned the acquisition and then mentioned internet Boom! God please don’t say we are going to have another Internet boom. I don’t think we are even close to a boom. You have to remember that back in the 90′s and now are two totally different markets of the Internet. There are not many similarities between the two and many changes have happened making the two time periods much different. Do you think there is a boom?
