The Fanboy’s of Apple

Apple fans are very dedicated. First off I should state for the record that I don’t have any Apple products. Not even an iPod however, I am looking to buy a MacBook Pro. The problem is that I just have a hard time putting up all that money for a computer. Anyways back to the point of this post. Last Saturday Doug and I went to the Apple store grand opening at Coconut Point. While there I took a couple of pictures and when I got home I wrote a post and posted the photos on my flickr site. Since Saturday these 5 or so pictures are in my top viewed photos and I have had like 5 or 6 emails asking if I had anymore. Ok so what’s your point Shaun? Well my point is Apple geeks, nerds, followers, fan boys, whatever you want to call them take I guess you could call it pride in what they use. I mean think about this, if I went to a opening of a new Bose store would there be people just out surfing around looking for Bose store photos or the recent grand opening? I highly doubt it. Actually it’s kind of cool and I would have to give props to Apple’s marketing department. This has to be one of the best in the industry. So my question to you is, “Are you an apple fanboy and why?” Tell me something good that will make my buy Apple?

Apple Store Grand Opening (Coconut Point)

Almost there I got out early today to meet up with Doug at Coconut Point mall in Estero (Florida) to go to the grand opening of the new Apple Store. This is the first Apple store in Southwest Florida. The closest store before this store was either in Miami or Tampa. I have been to a couple of Apple stores before including Buffalo, Rochester, Syracuse, Tampa, and Orlando however, I have never been to a grand opening ceremony. It was pretty cool. The store opened at 10am, we were there around 9am and there was already a line. By 9:30am the line was down the sidewalk (Coconut Point is an outside mall). It was pretty shocking to see how many people came out to the opening. I wonder if it was because of the free t-shirt? This Apple store sports no checkout counters. OK I Lied there was one if you were going to pay with cash. If you decided to pay with credit all you have to do is go to any Apple sales agent and they can check you out right there with there Windows PDA. The best part is that they can either print out your receipt or email it to you or do both. It was pretty cool. The only problem was that the sales agent said they are having some small problems with the system. We jokingly said it runs windows right? He proceeded to turn over the PDA and to our surprise there was the Windows CE logo! It was pretty funny. The store was set up nice and the check out experience was amazing. I haven’t seen this at any other apple store have you? All in all it was worth it, and I think there is another Apple store opening soon at Waterside shops in Naples, FL. I’ll be there for that one too!

Check out the pictures I took!

It Really Works

So a while back Doug told me about this site called PayPerPost.com. It’s a site that allows you to write about certain topics that they have listed and if you meet the requirements and the post is available online for 30 days then they give you some money. At first I thought this was a joke and didn’t really believe it. So far i have been paid something like $45.00! It’s legit However, there are some things I don’t like about it. The major problem is that some of the posts require you to post positive comments about the topic. You can see what this will do. People do anything for money! Every so often I check it out and see if there are any good topics. Hopefully I will make enough money so that I can buy a MacBook Pro! Only time will tell.

Apple seizes the word “Podcast”

microphoneApple has sent out cease and desist letters to podcasters for using the word podcast. Is Apple going to ruin it for everyone because of there marketing and legal gimmicks? I think it’s funny that Apple has gone this route. Podcasting has made the iPod a very nice investment and now with the Zune player coming out Apple needed to do something. The common internet users think that you need an iPod to listen to podcasts which you don’t. With the release of the Zune player Microsoft may market it as the next generation podcast listener. Not what apple would like! I think this is why Apple is doing what they are doing. Bad choice by Apple since the internet and podcasting community will have to come up with another name. The word podcast has become a internet recognized name. However, things may have to start from scratch again. So what would you like the new podcast word to be? What about MAUDcast = Mobile Audio Casting.

Another iPod?

iPodSeriously, am I the only person on the internet that could give a damn about another iPod? It seams like every 4 months or so Apple releases another version of there iPod. I mean what is this one going to have in it, another 512mb of disk space making it the only MP3 player on the market to have 1.5 gigs? The biggest problem is that users not like me but maybe you will buy the damn thing. Apple on the other hand is very smart in their marketing techniques. This is a company that will get everyone all hyped up, even the main stream media over a simple little 3.5 index card or email that will says something like join us on such a date, and have a phrase like “10 songs in your pants!” Maybe it’s me, maybe not. If 9/11 wasn’t this week all the news from the blogging community would be about this new announcement (at least 1/2 of it is already). All I can say is congrats to Apple for brain washing people with your marketing ads. It’s working. In fact I may buy a Mac soon too! On the other hand, the releasing of a new iPod every 4-6 months is getting ridicules. Sooner or later people will realize and stop purchasing them. I mean come on I would be pissed if I bought an iPod like 4 months ago and another newer one is coming out already![tags]Apple, iPod, Marketing, Computers, Mac, [/tags]
