Our Widget Made TechCrunch!

[We stole the cheezy headline from Zvi Band - Ok the Headline "Look Mom...I'm on TechCrunch" was an embarrassing move for Zvi so I'll change it! - "@skeevis that headline was one of my more embarrassing moves ever"

Our amazing yet simple McCain/Palin '08 widget made TechCrunch yesterday.  Thanks to Justin [Clearspring Employee] for pointing that out.  This is pretty amazing since we have had 13,763 [as of this writing] installs while the widget has only been on the net for 62 days.   TechCrunch points out the view Vs. install ratio for Obama’s tax cut calculator and our simple McCain/Palin YouTube campaign video aggregator.  Our views are far less [only 56,507 as of this writing] but our installs are far more.

It’s kind of amazing that this widget which took only 20 minutes to build, install and distribute has been installed so many times.  I think it only testifies that Clearspring [I don't work there either] has such a superb platform for this.  Every time I create a widget with the Clearspring framework it is so super simple and easy to go from having nothing to having the world.  And the world it is.  Congrats to Clearspring for reaching the status of #1 worldwide for its widget network [comScore Ranking].

So with that said, why not install our widget and help spread the word.  There is only 4 more days left for our widget to make an impact.  If that’s not your slice of bread then jump over to clearspring.com and try the widget creation yourself.

Veterans History Project [John McCain]

A quick search this morning for John McCain at the Library of Congress website bought up a page on one of my favorite projects at the Library, the Veterans History Project.  The Veterans History Project consists of interviews  from veterans including biography’s and photos that are posted online so that their story and history can be shared with the world and documented so that it’s not lost over time.  The digital collection is very extensive.  It’s open to anyone and I think is one of the coolest projects at the Library.

You can see John McCain’s interviews and bio at the Veterans History Project [John McCain] page.

Umpires Ernie Quigley, Tom Connelly, Hank O’Day, Bill Dinneen at 1916 World Series

With the World Series only one game away from a potential winner I decided to go search through the Prints and Photographs collection from the Library of Congress for some old World Series photos.  This one shows umpires in the 1916 World Series game which featured the Boston Red Sox and the Brooklyn Robins.  Stats from this series can be found at baseball-almanac.com.

You can find many more amazing World Series photographs from the Library of Congress on the LOC Prints and Photographs site.

2nd Annual BarCampDC [Review]

CDIAWow it has been one week since the second annual BarCampDC.  The camp was a total success and couldn’t have been done without our friends at CDIA who generously let us use their space!  We also can’t forget all the great talks and discussions that were held and everyone you attended.  We estimated that we had about 130 people who took part in talks from beer to creating iPhone applications.  Each attendee got a shirt, food, and some great new knowledge!  Even though we may have estimated a bit high on the pizza (always better to have more than not enough), we still had enough cash on hand to hold a amazing social hour (Open Bar) at McFadden’s.   I personally would like to thank Justin, John, Peter and all the other organizers and volunteers and sponsors who pitched in.   Such a great un-conference couldn’t of happened without you guys especially the sponsors.  So…When is the next one? Justin has posted a poll on his website asking when the 3rd Annual BarCampDC should take place. Please go and vote! This will help us in planning a time frame for the next camp.  Also suggestions and comments are always welcome. If you know something that we can do better please let use know! You can just drop those suggestions and ideas in the comments below.
Shirts!
Oh yea, I second what Justin has said.

All of this really shows how together we are in our goal of making the DC area one of the most kick ass technology and entrepreneurial centers on the East coast if not the country as a whole.
