Refresh-DC – “Getting Serious with Freelancing”

Refresh-DCSo yesterday was my first Refresh-DC event, and it was amazing that so many people showed up. I meet some great people in the technology community and even someone that I graduated from RIT with. Martin put on a great talk about “Getting serious with Freelancing”. Some of the items that he talked about I have experienced myself such as taking freelance jobs for very little money just to get your name out there. I felt a bit better after the event being assured that I wasn’t the only one taking the hit. Overall, it was a very informing event. Even though I don’t think I am ready to get “Serious” but “Get Started” with freelancing I have taken a lot away from this event and meet a lot of great DC geeks.

I’m hoping that Martin will post the slides from the event soon. When he does I will link to them here. Thanks to Justin for reminding me about this event.

Yes, I have moved!

Ok…so you may have noticed the recent post that says I have moved to DC.  Well that’s right.  I have left my job in Fort  Myers, Florida with Sony Electronics for an opportunity to work at the Library of Congress (LOC) as a LAMP Developer.  This is a contract position and I will be working for CACI International.  I have also started a new blog about living in DC.  You can follow me over there at Living in the District.  This whole process has moved very quickly and I am still settling in.  Stick with me while I get going.  It shouldn’t be to long before I am back blogging again.
