Web Apps: The Future

September 14th, 2006

Future of Web AppsDo TV news Executives really know that much about what is good on the internet and what is bad? In an article on Reuters entitle “CBS wants to buy the next YouTube, not Youtube”, Moonves states, Maybe we would look for the next YourTube, the next great idea that’s not spread across the world. He goes on to state that Murdoch’s News Corps, the owner MySpace, has made some good internet investments and some (they don’t mention any names) have made some poor ones.

So the question really is does anyone really know what the next big thing is until its already popular? How do we know it’s not going to be a fad, and are social networks here to stay?

Yesterday there was a conference on “The Future of Web Apps” You can listen to some of there speeches here from a previous conference. I haven’t listened to these yet but will today and some of my two cents later on. However, I think that the success of the app is the target of the user community. That’s why MySpace are so powerful in some ways and scary in others. Another reason could be its media attention. When was the last time your heard del.icio.us in the news? Then make the statement of when was the last time you heard MySpace in the news? You can’t just acquire a web app and hope it succeeds. You need to push for the hottest and utmost advancements in web technology and market then hell out of it.

More to come on this subject as I listen to these podcasts on the Future of web Apps!
