Comcast-icly Slow

August 31st, 2006

ComcastThe past couple of weeks Jen and I have noticed that our broadband connection through Comcast has been slow. I haven’t really tested out the download and upload speeds but I am going to soon. On Technorati I did a search on tags labeled Comcast. Boy did I find a lot of problems that people have faced with there online service. Most posts are about how Comcast has blocked IP’s and blacklisted Email addresses due to spam. However, some are about slow connections. Not much information out there though on how to resolve the slowness problem. Though, the lighting storm that struck this morning didn’t help the situation either. Lighting had hit the cable box outside our condo and traveled through the coax cable only to blow out Jens 19inch TV in our bedroom. Cable since has been restored and things are working fine but the internet connection is noticeably slower.

So if you have encountered the same problem and want to know how slow your connection really is, look no further. Here are is a list of links that will help you zero in on your connection speed

  1. Network Garage
  2. McAfee SpeedoMeter
  3. ZDNet Connection Speed

Hope these tests help you find out if your connection is slow. If the slowness continues through next week I’ll be contacting Comcast.

FYI - Remember to check your speed that you have ordered. I know that Comcast has 2 or 3 different speed ranges that you can order from.

It’s a mixed thing with Comcast from what I hear. I have 2 friends who are techs for Comcast, and both have horrid connections, irony ;)
Then I have one friend who has never had any issue with her connection and is just a regular customer.
