New Flickr Guidelines
February 26th, 2006
Has anyone noticed that flickr has posted new user guidelines? flickr has spelled out some strict DOs and DONTs for its users and they don’t look good for some people. Some of the main DONTs go like this, Don’t “Use your account to host web graphics like logos and banners.” Don’t “Sell stuff (including yourself).” Don’t “Upload anything that isn’t yours.” Do you think they are serious? One of the last lines in the news release goes like this “Plainly speaking, if you don’t want to abide by our TOS and these Guidelines, don’t let the door hit you on your way out!”
From the sounds of there new TOS, it seams as though they are losing some money due to bandwidth problems. What else could it be? I know a lot of people that host there photos here for there personal websites, including myself, and they host photos of items that they are selling on eBay. Does anyone know if they are hurting in the pocketbook? This is a Yahoo Company, maybe they are just updating guidelines to go with Yahoo standards. All and all, I wonder if they will start notifying users for excessive bandwidth usage.
