PortGate…What’s the Issue?

ShipI’m going out on a limb and disagreeing with everyone on this issue other than President Bush. The acquisition of Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co. (P&O) by the Dubai based company Dubai Ports World will have no impact on our national security. If you just skim the issue at a whole, you realize that the only reason why liberals and conservative don’t want DP World to take over is because Dubai is a Muslim country. The funny part is that no one ever said anything when P&O a British Company, where there are over one million Muslims, was in control. Think about this, the same people that said “the United States is making a bad name for it self in the Muslim countries because of war in Iraqi” are the same people that are saying no to the change of guard solely because DP World resides in a Muslim country. How two faced can you get?

Here are some other thought that I have that you should think about.

  • Once a ship arrives in a US port is already too late. We should be more worried about ships that are not being check when they leave foreign ports. If DP World operates United States ports and other foreign ports safety may become stronger.
  • The port deal would employ the same people that have worked there for years. DP World is not going to fire everyone and place there own workers from there country in the U.S. ship yards. The safety standards that are in place will stay in place. The U.S. Coast Guard and Home Land Security will still do all the checking of ships before entering our harbors.

Wake up; too many times do I hear from the ACLU that republicans and conservatives spend to much time racial profiling. The changing of P&O to DP World is like Borders Book store buying out Barnes and Nobles. They will still sell the same book, in the same manor. Let’s grow up and support President Bush on this issue.

New Flickr Guidelines

FlickrHas anyone noticed that flickr has posted new user guidelines? flickr has spelled out some strict DOs and DONTs for its users and they don’t look good for some people. Some of the main DONTs go like this, Don’t “Use your account to host web graphics like logos and banners.” Don’t “Sell stuff (including yourself).” Don’t “Upload anything that isn’t yours.” Do you think they are serious? One of the last lines in the news release goes like this “Plainly speaking, if you don’t want to abide by our TOS and these Guidelines, don’t let the door hit you on your way out!”

From the sounds of there new TOS, it seams as though they are losing some money due to bandwidth problems. What else could it be? I know a lot of people that host there photos here for there personal websites, including myself, and they host photos of items that they are selling on eBay. Does anyone know if they are hurting in the pocketbook? This is a Yahoo Company, maybe they are just updating guidelines to go with Yahoo standards. All and all, I wonder if they will start notifying users for excessive bandwidth usage.
