Technorati Tags with Wordpress
January 2nd, 2006
I’m trying to get more hits on kapusta brothers and I have heard this is the way to go. Therefore, In my search for a wordpress plugin I’ve come across many. Most make you edit and add custom database fields and that’s not what I wanted. However, one plugin caught my eye. Over at boakes.org they have a plugin called Automatic Meta & Technorati Tags. I was like cool, this will be great. All I would have to do is write my post and bamm the plugin would search my post and mark certain words as tags. I thought I was in business until I read further. There is a line under hints that states,
don’t recommend that you use the plugin without hand-tweaking the tags
Well then, why do you call this Automatic? So in the long run I decided to run with SimpleTags. It seams to be doing the job just fine!

Hi Kapustas,
Since you ask: I call it automatic because it automatically creates the relevant bits for every new post that your write, and automatically adds the relevant meta and technorati tags.
It goes as far as it can because it’s impossible for a machine to accurately understand the meaning of your post – anyone that tells you otherwise is either wrong, or about to become the richest person in the world (because they must have just perfected AI).
Autometa extacts what appear to be the most important terms from each new post that you write, but, because what you write does not necessarily contain all the relevant words and tags to which the post pertains, it’s necessary for a human to have the last word. You can, if you wish, leave it all down to the machine, and it can be entirely automatic, but then your tags won’t be optimal, no matter if you use Autometa, or any other machine based tagging system that has yet to be invented.
The beauty of Technorati is that it’s human-tagged, so automatic machine tagging of everything would only serve to reduce both the specificity and exhaustivity of the tagging system. Autometa exists to simplify and automate the tagging process, and not to subvert it.
That’s why it’s not totally automatic. Thanks for looking all the same
