It’s been reported by the Washington Post that Independence Air (flyi) will be closing the doors on January 7th 2006. It’s hard to understand but I guess there are a lot of start-up costs in an airline. I have flown two round trips on flyi and they were great and the price was excellent. Independence Air who filed bankruptcy months earlier has been rated one of the top 5 airlines in 4 major categories by its fliers. It will be sad to see Independence Air to go away. Hopefully, someone investor can put up some money to keep them alive. This will also mean that ePlus (my employer) will have to find a new airline. Our corporate office was in Dullas, VA so it was cheap and easy to use flyi.
On a side note, I’m glad that I didn’t reserve our Tampa, FL tickets with flyi. I will be traveling during the week they plan to stop service. That wouldn’t be a good thing if I wanted to come home on the 10th of January.
