Amazon must have heard the calling from the blogging world about there slow moves to place a donation link on there site. Last night about two hours after writing one of the thousand posts out there about the relief efforts Amazon placed a link on there site. However, I am still disappointed. Even though Amazon has stepped up they did step up enough. If you don’t remember the add that they placed on there site for the tsunami here is a screenshot to refresh your memory

Now that’s the kind of add I expected when a friend of my told me that Amazon had placed a link to donate to the relief efforts. I was happy only to find out that their add for Katrina is hum… SMALL, Very Small. So compare them and tell me what you think?

Not to be insensitive or anything–I agree that Amazon should go with the full-page donation ad regardless…
BUT, the tsunami death toll was ~114,000 people (some estimate as much as 221,000) whereas Katrina’s death toll is expected to be 2% of that at max. There should have been a larger response for the tsunami.
I sort of agree. Like the FEMA director said “Hurricane Katrina is far worse that the Tsunami. The tsunami came and went. It was finished with in 12 hours unlike katrina who is still going strong.”
