UPDATED
What has America come to? I just asked my friend Justin if he was pissed at America right now. I thought I would never say that. I thought only liberals said that. Anyways, about 6 months ago, a massive tsunami struck overseas and America responded in multiple ways, hours after the disaster. From telethons on TV to website asking for donations. From the smallest companies to the biggest corporations. America responded. Now almost three days after hurricane Katrina, America is slowly to responded to a disaster on is OWN soil! Hello folks, this is the worst natural disaster ever in America. Why hasn’t Amazon, Google, or HOLLYWOOD stepped up to support there own country. Why? So for now I will post who is taking the role to help America recover and companies and corporations who love America.

I Want Greek Food
Lamb meat is easy to find but why can’t you find frozen lamb meat for gyros? I have been looking for gyro meat for the past two days. I have searched high and low and i am unable to find anything. Its like clue. But with no hints. Wegmans only sells fresh lamb, Tops sells no lamb at all, Palmer Foods nope, Skips…nope, NY Deli…nope, Rochester New York…nope! I have all the fixings for a gyro but no meat. At least coffee is now good for you.
Anyone know where I can find Gyro Meat?
Geico wishes its customers bad luck
Today I recieved a email from Geico wishing me bad luck for the upcoming holiday. Here is a short excerpt of the email
GEICO General Insurance Company
SHAUN FARRELL,
With Labor Day weekend almost here, the summer driving season is at its peak. Unfortunately, heavy traffic often leads to accidents, so we thought this would be a good time to remind our customers how geico.com makes handling a claim faster and more convenient than ever before.
It’s like they want you to get in an accident! humm…
Technology Round Up (and Down)
Recently I have been turned on to RSS feeds. If you not sure what an RSS feed is there are plenty of sites out there that explain RSS well. I recommend W3C’s About RSS. Anyways, I have been looking for a client that would support RSS feeds so that in the morning (6am’ish) I can get on my computer and read the morning news, blogs, and technology all in one spot. What I currently do is I have all my favorite web pages saved in firefox and I open them up in tabs, about 30 or 40 of them. The problem with this is that it takes a while to load the pages and I am missing a lot of posts that don’t show up on front page. So I am currently looking for a good free RSS reader. I have tried the following:
- Bloglines – Don’t like the interface
- FeedReader – Cheesy
- Sharpreader – just ok, nothing special.
And I have also tried a couple really bad ones that are listed on this site.
The best on I have found right now is Sage. Sage is a lightweight RSS and Atom feed aggregator extension for Mozilla Firefox. It’s got a lot of what you need and not much of what you don’t. (< -- Taken directly from there site) Overall I think this is the best one I found but I'm certinly open for suggestions. I like the bloglines idea but I don’t like the interface. That may mean I'm up for a new web project!?
On the other hand, the release of Google Talk has disappointed many including myself. First off (and I know its only in beta) but why would you release something as simple as it is. Basically you need to have windows OS to make the best of what is there. Google did not release a Mac client but there are compatible Mac clients such as adium and iChat. However, all you can do is chat, no talking capabilities as of yet. Right now Google Talk is not for your average computer user. If you are not using the Google client there are a few setup steps needed. With all the hype before the release I think Google will be hurt by there decision to release a beta version. Another down fall is that you have to be on their jabber server. If you are not registered with Google on there server then you can’t talk to other people. So if I wanted to talk to Joe Smith and he has AIM think again it's not going to happen. I just don’t know what to think right now and I'm willing to hold out till a stable release. Although 1.0 better blow my socks off or I’ll stick with shitty AIM.
Google Talk
Google Talk is up and running. Im in the process of downloading it and checking it out. More to come
